Profits plummeted more than 50 percent in the third quarter for Reliv International as distributors of its soy-based nutritional supplements saw a drop in the average order size leading to a decrease in sales, the company reported Wednesday.

Net income for the third quarter ended Sept. 30 totaled $900,557, or $0.06 per share, compared to net income of $1.8 million, or $0.11 per share, in the third quarter of 2006.

Sales dropped more than 15 percent for the quarter to $25.1 million from $29.8 million in the same quarter last year.

The number of active distributors with Reliv increased to 70,500 from 64,820, an 8 percent jump. But its distributors reaching the “master affiliate” level dropped more than 12 percent, leading to a drop in the average order size.
